This activity, from Hagerstown Community College, introduces elementary-level students to microscopes and magnifying tools. Students will use hand lenses, magiscopes, dissecting microscopes, and/or compound microscopes to examine a number of materials, including slices of cork, plants, and small organisms. Depending on age, students can draw what they see, compare materials and microscope strengths, and calculate magnification. This lesson includes activity directions and two variations of an activity worksheet for students of varying reading comprehension.
